Eric Custar is a maritime and cargo transportation industry consultant and president of Maritime and Transportation Solutions. He has more than twenty years of experience in logistics, distribution, and operations within the trucking and maritime industries and is also an expert on cargo theft.
Mr. Custar regularly takes part in speaking engagements on supply chain security and strategies for improving business preparedness and response to the threat of cargo theft. He was most recently published in the reference book “Maritime Safety, Security, and Piracy,” (Informa Law) for his research and analysis of landside cargo theft, security measures, and response.
Currently, he is co-authoring, “The New Age of Biosecurity: A Global Perspective,” a book that investigates biosecurity from its beginning to its contemporary application as well as the deterrence, mitigation, and response to biosecurity breaches. He is developing novel strategies to address key vulnerabilities within the global supply chain with respect to biosecurity. This process is directed at the development of rapid response measures in the event of biological-based theft, accidental release, and bioterrorism.

Mr. Custar received his Master of Business Administration in Maritime, Ports, and Logistics Management from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, in 2007. In 1994, he received his undergraduate degree in Spanish from the University of Illinois, where he also attended the graduate program in African Studies.
Actively involved in the maritime and transportation community, Mr. Custar is a member of several local organizations. He was recently accepted into the Virginia Area Maritime Security Committee and has a seat on the Risk Assessment Subcommittee. Mr. Custar also serves on the Board of Governors for the International Propeller Club of the United States – Port of Norfolk, Virginia, and the Board of Directors for the National Defense Transportation Association – Tidewater Chapter, Norfolk, Virginia, where he is the A-35 Chair.
